Whether you’re daydreaming about or making solid plans for your move to State College, we’ll keep you in the loop about interesting things going on in the area.
In addition to enjoying the slowed-down pace of State College summer, here’s what’s been going on!

A rendering by New Line Skateparks of soon-to-be-constructed High Point Skatepark in State College
High Point Skatepark is a go!
After 7 years, lots of community enthusiasm, and now, $2.4 million secured for the project, High Point Skatepark will turn a currently overgrown and unused baseball field into a free public space for our community to practice BMX, scootering, skateboarding, and roller skating right here in the borough. As the only public facility of its kind in Centre County, the park will provide a safe place that will keep kids from resorting to practicing in more dangerous places like the street or the cracked basketball court in Sunset Park.
Local pro skater Jake Johnson and his father, PSU landscape architect professor emeritus Tim Johnson, designed the park along with internationally renowned New Line Skateparks. The project was first proposed by BMX legend (and local!) Jamie Bestwick and Tony Hawk’s Skatepark Project notably gave $30,000 towards the funding goal.
Check out these project renderings and get excited with us about all of the ways this impressive new park will foster community and give locals a safe place to connect!

Feel Good for the Community
Centre Foundation’s yearly 36-hour online giving event – which has raised $22.5 million since 2012 – raised over $2.8 million this year! Funds are used to support the arts, animals, education, the environment, human services, and so many other things that make Centre County a wonderful place to live, with more than 230 organizations and nonprofits receiving support this year – the most ever!

All of the Fests!
With an abundant and diverse buffet of options, summer is choose-your-own-adventure festival season in Happy Valley! We get to bounce from Rhoneymeade Fest to Central PA 4th Fest to Arts Fest to Tussey Mountain Wing Fest to Hoppy Valley Brewers Fest to Ice Cream Fest – and we know the list goes on! (In fact, while taking a break from writing this and walking by the bulletin board at Good Day Cafe, we saw a poster for Harp Fest!)
From experimental and multicultural music to epic fireworks, imaginative wing flavors to unique art, and dozens of craft brews to spoonfuls of refreshing ice cream, there’s a summer fest experience for everyone.

And New Flights Out of State College?
Have you heard? Breeze Airways and the State College Airport are currently in a “will they, won’t they?” relationship. (We really hope they will!) The airline is considering adding two weekly flights to Orlando, Florida, with possible additional destinations added in the future.
What needs to happen to secure these flights? The community needs to demonstrate “clear and strong support” by July 15 by filling out an online form that will serve as a (non-binding) pledge to fly the new service. You can voice your support for the new flights here. Just make sure to do so by TODAY, July 15!
As of this past Friday, more than 1,400 responses had been received and more than 4,500 flights pledged!
Oh! And did you catch these?
